The Bond formula exclusively exposed

James Bond
Cliche Bond look?
Friday, 9th April 2010
In a leaked e-mail from an unnamed Pinewood Studios executive to the director of Bond 23 (currently in pre-production and due to be released in 2011,) a generic formula for a James Bond movie has been exposed. In the e-mail, the executive insists that the following criteria are followed whilst the screenplay is composed and when filming subsequently begins in early June of this year. The Yorker exclusively exposes the document below.

Opening Action Scene which includes a boat chase/car chase/fighter jet dogfight, machinegun fire and explosions. Note: The noise emitted by a pistol will be identical to the noise created by an exploding factory/car/aeroplane. When the scene ends, Bond has a suave/concerned/in pain expression on his face.

Opening credit sequence in which seemingly random objects are shown in a variety of colours and exposures alongside silhouetted (but blatantly naked and beautiful) women.

M briefs Bond about the super villain and his (always HIS) suspected intentions.

Bond meets said super villain ‘socially’ for drinks/round of golf/shooting/skiing. The super villain’s creepy/muscular/foreign/mute/menacing right-hand-man is also present.

Bond meets beautiful girl #1 who is linked to the super villain in some way.

Bond meets beautiful girl #2 (who maintains an air of intrigue and insists she is immune to Bond’s charm.)

Bond visits an exotic country for some reason (in which he will stay in a 5-star resort,) then returns to England and tries to figure out the super villain’s plans at MI5 HQ based on his findings in the exotic country.

‘Q Scene’ in which Bond receives the precise gadgets that will be useful to him on this mission.

Dramatic music and footage of an aeroplane/speeding car/helicopter/horse/rickshaw.

A poorly developed character dies. Usually beautiful girl #1. Usually helping Bond in some way.

Sex scene in which bond makes love to beautiful girl #2 with a bottle of Bollinger chilling by the side of the bed.

Bond must leave suddenly/unexpectedly to fight the super villain’s right-hand man and henchmen but ultimately goes on to lose and is knocked out.

(Meanwhile, the super villain devises an elaborate way of killing Bond and beautiful girl #2.)

Bond comes round with beautiful girl #2 tied to him/in danger of some kind.

They are incarcerated/ in a situation from which it seems there can be no possible escape.

They escape.

Using the gadget(s) supplied to him by Q, the super villain’s right-hand-man is killed and Bond makes his escape from the sticky situation.

Main fight scene in which a building/HQ/boat/aeroplane/house/landmark is destroyed. Note: Throughout this scene, beautiful girl #2 remains in constant danger. Bond must juggle saving the world and his also protecting his love interest.

The super villain finally realises that his plans have been scuppered and gets very angry indeed.

After a short chase scene, Bond ends up alone and face-to-face with the super villain.

Bond makes a witty/ironic remark just before killing the super villain.

Bond realises he and the girl are still in danger. They promptly escape.

Bond and the girl kiss and cuddle in a field/hotel bedroom/rubber dinghy.

Closing credit sequence beginning with “James Bond Will Return In...”
