Laura Reynolds looks at some of the cheapest beauty products available
I have cleverly devised a tried and tested exercise regime that even the most exercise phobic among you can manage. As for many of you this may be your first attempt at proper exercise for quite some time I’ve kept it easy to fit into your daily routine and most importantly cost free – no extortionate gym membership for us! Some days I’ve stuck to more traditional types of exercise and others are geared to the student lifestyle in York that we all know and love. . .
Monday: It’s the beginning of the week so let’s start as we mean to go on with Campus races or circuits. If you’re doing this by yourself spend 30 minutes doing laps jogging around the lake or a circuit of the whole of campus. If you’ve roped a friend into your new healthy lifestyle give these 30 minutes an added edge by racing each other to certain points. (If you start from different places, this can also have the added bonus of letting you know the quickest routes across campus)
Tuesday: Tuesday, to many will also be known as ‘Toff’s Tuesday’ so take advantage of being in a nightclub and actually DANCE. 30 minutes of actual physical movement is not a lot to ask, and depending on your height and weight you can burn anything between 80 and 300 calories busting your moves on the dance floor. SO when I am strutting my stuff this week in Toff’s I do not expect to see the usual static dance floor but it heaving with movement!
Wednesday: For those of you in a relationship or are lucky enough to have a casual sex friend today is Sexercise day. Even just a bit of kissing and cuddling can burn a minimum of 30 calories so get humping people. Vigorous energetic sex is very good exercise, your using a whole host of muscles throughout the body and it gets the heart rate nice and high. And just think of all those added endorphins you’re getting, exercise isn’t really all that bad. . .
Thursday: As a proper student you will probably be addicted to Neighbours, Hollyoaks or some sort of DVD box set. This means you spend at least half an hour a day just sitting on your arses. From now on you are going to spend this time doing a variety of aerobic exercise. Reps of 10-20 are the best method, whether you’re doing star jumps, lunges, squats or sit ups.
Friday: So far the week has focused on aerobic exercise to get your heart pumping and your muscles moving. But stretching is also an important part of a healthy body, especially for keeping your muscles in good shape. The best way to incorporate this into your daily routine is to do 30 minutes in the morning or do 15 minutes when you wake up and 15 minutes before you go to bed. If you’re unsure about how to do stretching exercises the internet has a whole host of good sites with routines so just whack it in to a search engine and away you go.
Saturday: It’s a Saturday so you can have a treat, enlist a few friends and spend the afternoon in the park. A brisk walk to Hull Road park topped off with 15mins pushing yourself to and fro on the swings should be enough to get your blood pumping around the body and give the muscles in your legs a good stretch!
Sunday: York really is the ideal place to ease you into exercise, a walk into town and then a circuit of the city by walking the walls is more than enough exercise for one day. This is especially good if you’ve got family or friends visiting as you can kill two birds with one stone by showing them the sights at the same time. It’s also something that you shouldn’t leave York without doing.
That’s it for this week; good luck with your cheap and easy exercise routine and tune in next week for more tips on becoming a better person (physically anyway).
