“A woman should wear fragrance wherever she expects to be kissed”-Coco Chanel
Laura Reynolds looks at some of the cheapest beauty products available
When you’re looking for a new skin care product, hair care product or just some cool nail varnish, what information do you have to go on? Advice from friends is always useful, but you may have different tastes or different needs. The place to go in such cases I think is beauty blogs. Some are written by industry professionals, and others by beauty product hoarders. Most give honest reviews of products, show you how to apply make-up and illustrate their articles with photos so you can see products’ results for yourself, without advertisers’ tricks distorting the appearance of results. Here’s my pick of the top 5 beauty blogs out there so that the next time you need some new mascara, you won’t just have to pick one at random in an aisle in boots:
Blogger Charlotte is a self-confessed cosmetics junkie. She reviews lots of affordable products, making her blog more appealing to us poor students. The posts are sorted in an organized way and given Charlotte’s passion for photography, the accompanying photos are good quality.
Freelance writer Karen is behind Makeup and Beauty Blog. Writing from the States, not all products mentioned will be available in the UK. On the other hand, there are plenty of reviews of online beauty shops, makeup tips and competitions to win vouchers and products. If you’re interested in blogging about makeup or beauty products yourself you can also send in articles to be posted on the site.
London Makeup Girl’s blog may not be as flash as some of these other ones, but what it lacks in aesthetic appeal, it certainly makes up for in the quality of the content. Mrs London reviews hard to find products which means they tend to be under-reviewed. Her writing is also good and each post contains lots of useful information. Video tutorials on applying makeup are also posted on her blog.
Helen and Sheenie,, the creators of just nice things, are behind this informational, well layed out and aesthetically pleasing blog. With categories for every beauty brand and pampering product out there, you should be able to find everything you need here. The pair also post step by step guides on applying makeup and interviews with other beauty bloggers.
1) BeautyWooMe
Published by Jessica Teas, with contributions from Julia Rebaudo and Ali Taylor, BeautyWooMe is the place to go if you want to stay on top of all those beauty trends. A recent post was all about the new trend for tattooing one’s lips (not for me, personally). The blog also features articles on exercise, product reviews and articles on the beauty industry itself, illustrated with photos from behind the scenes at fashion shows. The blog is very well layed out and easy to navigate.
