The Bank Job - Friday, Week 7
“The true story of a heist gone wrong... in all the right ways.” In 1971, a group of thieves tunneled into the vault of a Baker Street bank. They looted safe deposit boxes of cash and jewelery worth over £3 million but this story was prevented from being told for over 30 years due to a government gagging order. With Jason Statham and Saffron Burrows at the lead, this understated British film involves murder, corruption and even a sex scandal with the Royal Family. Do not let the building works in the Physics building stop you from catching this thought provoking crime thriller.
Son of Rambow - Monday, Week 8
Garth Jennings (Director of Hitchhikers’ Guide to the Galaxy) is back with a heart-warming tale which can be enjoyed by all. We follow two young boys in the 1980s making their own home-movie. Despite their limited resources, their ambitions are limitless. Will is the eldest son of a Plymouth Brethren family who live by a strict moral code. Then he meets Lee Carter: maker of surreal home-movies. Lee exposes Will to a pirate copy of Rambo: First Blood and from that moment Will's mind is fixed only on making his own version of the film. This comedy about friendship, faith and the tough business of growing up should not be missed just for its simple message: no dream is impossible to achieve.
