Alex Pollard reviews Hollywood's biopic of the controversial Margaret Thatcher
Week Three is here, lectures have started once again and James Computer Lab is freezing again. Cheer up though as YSC has a cracking line-up of films that will cheer you up from this winter slump.
What if everyone went around telling the truth and just accepted it? Well this world is about to be shattered as suddenly a spark in Mark Bellison’s (Ricky Gervais) brain has enabled him to do the unthinkable. Lie. With a great supporting cast consisting of Jennifer Garner, Rob Lowe and Tina Fey this film provides a gentle and funny satire of human communication as really...how much do we really lie on a day-to-day basis?
Diablo Cody, the award-winning screenwriter of Juno, is back with her take on comedy-horror flicks with popular girl Jennifer (Megan Fox) becoming a victim of satanic ritual gone awry and as such becomes possessed. Witnessing the death of boys all around her as Jennifer feeds, her best friend Needy (Amanda Seyfried) must now rise to the occasion and vanquish Jennifer before things get worst. This is a perfect film to watch with a few mates as you laugh at the absurdities and the brilliant one-liners.
Roald Dahl’s book has finally been adapted, and through stop-motion no less. Wes Anderson, the brains behind The Royal Tenenbaums, has spent nearly six years attempting to bring this classic to the screen and it is almost certainly worth the wait. With a lush animation style and voice-over talents including George Clooney, Meryl Streep and Bill Murray, Fantastic Mr. Fox has been the only animated film standing in the way of Up in the quest of awards glory.
