News: The big news that’s on every film site at the moment is the departure of Megan Fox from the Transformers franchise. While she has come out saying that she jumped ship, most still believe that she has been pushed by Michael Bay. I guess we shall never know.
In other news Disney are so happy with their recent success with Alice in Wonderland, now officially the sixth highest grossing film ever, they are already lining up many new live-action movies. The most recently announced on the movie grapevine is a screenwriter was sought for a Cinderella adaptation. Who did they get? The writer that gave us The Devil Wears Prada and 27 Dresses is who. This could be interesting.
Releases: Girls (and guys who don’t want to admit it), it’s once again time to get those cosmos out for Sex & The City 2. With the plot still being hush-hush, the only snippets of information being the trailer and a few paparazzi shots, fans of the show have already started to book tickets, so get in there fast if you want to see it this weekend.
In terms of other films there are two that can be neatly skirted over (Tooth Fairy and Space Chimps 2) and one that could be interesting: The Losers. This action film, based on the comic strip of the same name, has been dubbed as the perfect appetiser movie for the summer blockbuster season with its well-executed mix of action and comedy.
News: After 6 suspense-filled seasons, Lost is gracing our screens one final time. In a surprising move, Disney (which owns the TV show) decided to please global superfans and broadcast the series finale across the world simultaneously with the US west coast (that’s a mind-boggling 5 a.m. our time – I’m most definitely there!)
Cheryl Cole has confirmed that she will be returning for the whole of this year’s X Factor, while it’s being rumoured that Dannii Minogue will be coming back for the live shows after giving birth later in the year.
As mentioned in this weekend’s part one preview to next US TV season, the full fall schedules for the 2010-11 TV season have been announced. Additionally, Smallville has announced that its next season will be its last (well it’s about time!). And some casting gossip for Desperate Housewives...Kyle McLachlan (Orson) will be leaving us for season 7, but we will get queen-of-mean Vanessa Williams (Wilhemina from Ugly Betty) on the Lane to keep us entertained instead. Yay!
Listings Highlights: The cultured among us will be tuning in to The Culture Show: Tate Modern is 10! (Tuesday 7pm, BBC2) for a special about the 10th anniversary of the gallery’s opening. The less cultured of us are more likely to be found watching Eurovision; both the semi-finals (Tuesday and Thursday 8pm, BBC3) and the actual show, which spans over an epic three and a quarter hours from 8pm on Saturday (BBC1). On the other hand, if you don't have time for that, watch the embedded video below instead!
Season/series finales: The final episode of Over the Rainbow aired on Saturday and Danielle Hope was chosen by the public to play Dorothy in a stage musical version of The Wizard of Oz. Other finales taking place include last night’s House, Damages (season 3 ends Wednesday) and Bones calling it a day (for now) on Thursday. BBC2’s Eighties Season concludes on Wednesday at 9pm with the second and final part of Money, an adaptation of the cult Martin Amis novel. Finally, American Idol’s 9th season will be crowning its winner this week – hippie folk chick Crystal Bowersox or gruff rocker Lee DeWyze – with a massive 2 hour finale on Thursday night (9pm, ITV2).
Oh no! Don't tell me things like who's leaving, it makes me sad.
