YSC Preview: Week 7

YSC Logo
Sunday, 6th June 2010

Congratulations to the third years who have now finished their degree! To the second and first years who are still in the midst of revision, exams and other such funderful academic activities, just breathe and you’ll be fine. If you are in the mood for a fun break, YSC are showing some great films this week to get your mind off of the topics of doom and gloom.

  • The Godfather Part II – Monday, Week 7

Since it would not be sporting to show The Godfather without showing its more successful sequel/prequel, York Student Cinema have decided that this Monday they will show The Godfather Part II. Whilst continuing the story of the ongoing corruption of Mafia godfather Michael Corleone (Al Pacino) this film skillfully interweaves in flashbacks of his predecessor Vito Corleone (Robert DeNiro) wherein we watch the establishment of the Corleone crime family.

  • How To Train Your Dragon – Thursday, Week 7

With the exception of the Shrek franchise, Dreamworks Animation has had an atrocious batting average. In steps How To Train Your Dragon whose charming animation and comic script has been able to achieve what few animated films have: something both kids and adults will enjoy. The humour has been perfectly pitched between the extremes of sardonic and painfully childish to produce a film which some are calling Babe but with fire.

  • Clash Of The Titans – Friday, Week 7

Having been forced to live in his car due to lack of funds, it is safe to say that the last six months have truly belonged to actor Sam Worthington. Not only did he star in the highest grossing film of all time but he has also snagged himself the lead in Clash Of The Titans, a remake of the 80s box office hit. Although taking great liberties with Greek mythology, this film is something that most films in its genre don’t achieve – an action film played straight.

All films are shown in P/X/001 in the Physics building, doors open 6:45pm for a 7:30pm start. Tickets are only £3!
