Weep not because this is the final week of films this year at the York Student Cinema, but rejoice for not only is it almost the summer holidays but also Iron Man 2 is being shown. Hurrah!
Films, such as The Road, that depict a post-apocalyptic world have become a bit old hat lately with every studio releasing their own variation on the same theme. The Book Of Eli somehow managed to buck the trend by using this as the perfect backdrop for a Western-style fast-paced action thriller that is oozing style. With dazzling set pieces, this serves as the perfect film to make a futuristic escape from the realities of everyday student life. All of this is in no small part due to the work of the directors as well as the performances from Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman, who ensure that this film has the ability to soar.
Robert Downey Jr. is back as the billionaire inventor playboy Tony Stark (aka Iron Man) in the sequel to Jon Favreau’s amazing 2008 blockbuster. This time around he is up against new villains (great performances from both Mickey Rourke and Sam Rockwell) as well as being under surveillance from S.H.I.E.L.D.’s undercover operative Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson). Fans of the Marvel universe and the first Iron Man film are unlikely to be disappointed due to its perfect mix of action, comedy, intrigue and a fantastic all-star cast. When it comes to the final film for the York Student Cinema to show in this academic year, there is no better choice.
All films are shown in P/X/001 in the Physics building; doors open 6:45pm for a 7:30pm start. Tickets are only £3!
