The York Student Cinema is back and definitely up and running as we showcase films from directors at the top of their game. This week sees legendary German auteur Werner Herzog’s vision of Bad Lieutenant, Knight and Day from James Mangold (the man behind the wonderful Walk the Line) and perhaps most excitingly we’re showing Christopher Nolan’s mind-bending existential thriller Inception.
Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans - Monday, Week 3
Legendary director Werner Herzog’s critically acclaimed tale of vice and insanity stars an electric Nicholas Cage in his best performance in years. Cage plays a good man who slides down a slippery slope into madness and corruption, a very different but equally gripping piece compared to Abel Ferrara’s classic of the same name. This exploration of ‘the joy of evil’ is an exceptional piece of cinema, told in Herzog’s own unique style - this is something not to be missed.
Knight and Day - Thursday, Week 3
Knight and Day sees the welcome return to the big screen of cinematic superstars Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz in a hugely exciting action-packed thriller. A possibly deranged super-spy (Cruise) picks up a confused woman named June (Diaz) and they’re forced to go on the run together - resulting in a dazzling blend of romance and high octane excitement. Expect a thoroughly entertaining night of fun as two of Hollywood's most popular stars light up the screen together.
Inception - Friday, Week 3
Christopher Nolan has come off the back of The Dark Knight to create what could well be his greatest masterpiece. Inception is a bold and beautiful thriller examining the nature of reality and the hidden recesses of humanity, alongside some astonishing action scenes. Undoubtedly one of the year’s finest films and one which deserves to become a classic, Inception is a truly breathtaking experience which features superlative performances from Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen Page and Marion Cotillard amongst an all-star cast.
York Student Cinema is in P/X/001 (Physics) and the doors open at 6:45pm. Tickets are only £3!
