This week sees an exciting mix of films at YSC starting with a Halloween celebration as we show Jonathan Demme’s exquisite Silence of the Lambs. We also offer a welcome return to the ever popular Predators and a particularly exciting performance of Edgar Wright’s much talked-about but as yet seldom seen Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.
One of the most iconic movies of the last twenty years, this brilliantly tense and terrifying horror thriller is the film that introduced the world to Anthony Hopkins’ iconic take on Dr Hannibal Lecter, a portrayal for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor. That’s only one of the film's several Oscars - others awarded to it include Best Picture, Director, Actress and Screenplay. The Silence of the Lambs is a cinematic tour de force which terrorises the big screen once again.
Written and produced by Sin City director Robert Rodriquez, this sequel to the 1987 classic is an exciting action packed treat. When a band of trained killers land on an alien game preserve they soon find themselves fighting against two different types everyone’s favourite crab faced aliens. Featuring Lawrence Fishburne and Academy Award winner Adrian Brody, Predators is a highly entertaining action packed ride and a must-see for fans of the franchise.
The new highly acclaimed and much talked-about film by Edgar Wright, director of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. This is an exceptionally original and interesting take on the popular graphic novel and a film that looks likely to soon develop a genuine cult following. Scott Pilgrim went largely unseen over the summer in favour of bigger films, which failed to capture the sheer originality or excitement of this most unusual experience.
