At the York Student Cinema this week we feature a mixture of romance and action. From the quiet country hills of Dorset in Stephen Frear’s wonderfully playful Tamara Drewe to adventure, action and excitement in the nostalgia-filled The A-Team and taut spy thriller Salt.
Fun and excitement in the countryside from Academy Award-nominated director Stephen Frears (The Queen, High Fidelity) in this delightful and very English romantic comedy. When journalist Tamara Drewe (played by the ever-watchable Gemma Arterton) returns to her childhood home she causes quite a stir and things start getting out of control. A huge critical and popular success, this should make for a charming and hugely enjoyable evening
The iconic 1980s TV show The A-Team comes to the cinema for an exciting action-packed adventure, filled with pleasant nostalgia. The famous elite squad plan to escape from prison and discover who framed them whilst gaining a little payback. This is carried out by the film’s all-star cast, including the brilliant Liam Neeson, alongside District 9 star Sharlto Copley and Jessica Biel. Expect an exciting, over-the-top, adrenaline fuelled ride - this should appeal to both fans of the original series and those who just want to watch a piece of good old-fashioned action cinema.
Angelina Jolie stars as Evelyn Salt, a CIA agent forced to go on the run after being named as a Russian sleeper agent, in this tense action thriller. Unsure about her real identity, Salt must escape to prevent the assassination of the president or possibly commit it. An intriguing and exciting film directed by Philip Noyce (Patriot Games), this should be a film that’ll truly on the edge of your seat.
