Returning after a wonderful winter break, the York Student Cinema is proud to present another selection of great films. Starting with an eclectic mix of teenage wizards, monstrous Santas and retired killers, there’s bound to be something for everyone this term.
Christmas may be over but why not treat yourself to this wonderfully festive Finnish film, in which the original terrifying Father Christmas is released from his icy tomb to spread fear and misery as he punishes wrong doers. This is an incredibly enjoyable fantasy horror comedy that is quite unlike any seasonal picture you have ever seen.
This fast and fun action-comedy stars Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich and Helen Mirren as a bunch of gun-toting former CIA operatives forced to join together when their old employers try to erase them. Having proved extremely popular with audiences around the world the film has earned itself a nomination as one of the best comedies of the year at the Golden Globes and should make for something rather special.
The seventh and arguably best outing of the Potter franchise moves the action outside of Hogwarts for the first part of the series’ stunning conclusion. The film features beautiful visuals and special effects and excellent performances from its young leads. Alongside a spectacular supporting cast including the likes of Ralph Fiennes, Jason Isaacs and Alan Rickman, this is a film with plenty to offer to all fans of the series and those who want to enjoy a breathtaking and magical ride.
