This week at the York Student Cinema, we have a great selection of sci-fi and thrillers that should excite and delight. From Joss Whedon’s incredibly popular and critically-acclaimed Serenity to The Adjustment Bureau (based on Philip K. Dick story) whilst Liam Neeson struggles to reclaim his identity in Unknown.
Following on from the incredibly popular TV series Firefly, Serenity follows a group of intergalactic outlaws as they do their best to evade an oppressive interstellar empire. This is far more than just a TV rip off, instead it’s an exciting and action-packed work that stands perfectly well on its own two feet as an excellent sci-fi adventure. The chance to see it on the big screen is not to be missed.
The ever-popular Liam Neeson stars in this intriguing action thriller as a man who wakes after an accident to find his entire life and identity stolen and nobody realising that anything is wrong. As he digs deeper, he begins to uncover terrifyingly dangerous secrets. This exciting thriller is a suspenseful, and action-packed ride that should make for perfect entertainment.
Based on a short story by legendary science-fiction writer Philip K. Dick the film tells of politician David Norris (Matt Damon) who uncovers a sinister organisation secretly controlling the world’s fate from the shadows. Forced to go on the run with Elise (Emily Blunt) a woman he loves but one that he was never supposed to meet. The result is a desperate attempt to alter and control their destiny against an invisible and extremely powerful adversary in a thrilling, intelligent and unusual film.
