This weekend proves to be packed with all sorts of viewing choices in a variety of genres. On Friday 4th November the original 1961 version of Parent Trap is showing on Film4 (keep in mind there is no Lohan) at 14:35. Later that evening over on e4, the Jim Carrey classic Me Myself and Irene starts at 22:00. Not for the faint hearted, Taxidermia is on Film4 at 2:15. Sunday is filled with more lighthearted offerings, with Chocolat also on Film4 at 18:45 and later that evening the action and CGI packed blockbuster Fantastic 4 over on Channel 4 at 19:55.
Johnny Depp’s newest movie is a passion project and ode to gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson. This movie, more than slightly reminiscent of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is an action-drama set in Havana. Also starring a beautiful blonde and Aaron Eckhart, this is sure to be a swear-filled, run-about-town adventure that will leave audiences craving a drink afterwards.
Justin Timberlake’s latest bid to be taken as a serious actor sees him in a Will Smith-style sci-fi set up. In the near future, money has become time. The human race is genetically modified to stop aging at 25 and then have to ‘top up’ their time or they die in a year. Perfect for any politics or history student who wants a creative lesson in the oppression of the lower classes and the divide between wealthy and poor. For all other takers, a bit of big screen, big cast fun.
You’d think the title would say it all, but this is actually the inspirational account of a biker turned man of God who goes to Africa in order to help child soldiers in the Sudan. Gerard Butler sells it on the poster, but the supporting cast including Kathy Baker and Michael Shannon suggest that there might be more to this film. Or it could be another Hobo with a Shotgun. Or Hot Tub Time Machine.
