This week sees Woody Harrelson team up with the likes of Mickey Rourke, Sam Rockwell, Christopher Walken and Colin Farrell in Seven Psychopaths. This is a new development, recently in pre-production, from the Academy Award winning writer/director Martin McDonagh, most famous for In Bruges. It is said to be about a screenwriter who gets caught up in his friend's kidnapping plot.
'God figure' Morgan Freeman is said to be one of the next in line to receive the Golden Globe lifetime achievement award. After a 47 year career, this would put him on par with the likes of Stephen Spielberg, Robert De Niro and Laurence Oliver. Somehow, after Se7en, The Shawshank Redemption and Unforgiven, I doubt there will be much controversy.
The Dark Knight Rises has released footage from behind the scenes that is sure to reduce fans into drooling teenagers. Moreover, there are rumours of a short, PG-13 prologue to The Dark Knight Rises being rleased with IMAX showings of the forthcoming Mission Impossible sequel.
New Releases
11/11/11 - A date-specific horror about a man who is plagued by the events that occur on the day of the title. Director Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II, III and IV) could potentially give this film a cheeky twist; however judging by the trailer, you can't tell for sure. Hopefully you wont end up plagued by the consequences of going to see said movie on such a date!
Wuthering Heights - Emily Bronte's excessively romantic magnum opus is again brought to the silver screen. Again. Apparently the Bronte sisters' are 'the' period dramas to do lately. I mean, hasn't something reached its pinnacle when Monty Python adapt it with flags? However, I regard the director / screenplay-writer Andrea Arnold so highly that I would imagine this new Wuthering Heights to be as climactic and dramatic as it will be melodramatic.
Arthur Christmas- This film is already screaming 'Christmas is coming, Christmas is coming!', as the British take this animated feature about Santa's youngest son to a cinema near you. Can't you just feel the Christmas spirit seeping into you now? It's probably worth a watch just to get that proper festive feeling, and even if it may only be escapism, it's escapism for your entire family.
Immortals - Think 300...except with the gods this time. Not measly men. It promises over-zealous action, super-buff men and relentless interest for those classics lovers among us, that looks like being politically incorrect fun. I say enjoy now, think later.
