Alex Pollard reviews Hollywood's biopic of the controversial Margaret Thatcher
The film has already been named best film and its director Martin Scorsese awarded best director by the National Board of Review. It promises great success as Scorssee’s first children’s film. Based on the novel by Brian Selznick, Hugo (Asa Butterfield) is an orphaned boy in 1930s Paris, living in the walls of Montparhasse train station who is caught up in solving a mystery involving his late father and an automaton.
The sequel to Happy Feet makes its first appearance on the big screen this week, though it has already come under harsh scrutiny from critics. Following on from its predecessor, the film follows Erik (Ava Acres), who is Mumble (Elijah Wood) and Gloria’s (Pink) son, as he tries to find his feet amongst the other penguins.
Acting as a prequel to John Carpenter’s 1982 original we see Kate (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) investigating the discovery of an alien creature found in Antarctica. It is doubtful that this remake/prequel will live up the cult status the original has earned. Though if nothing else it will provide some winter chills amongst the other light hearted releases this week.
