News

  • Christian Bale has confirmed that following wrapping up the filming of Batman: The Dark Knight Rises, he will be hanging up his batman costume for good, along with the film’s director Christopher Nolan. Speaking to the Philippine Daily Enquirer, Bale announced "Everything’s finished. It’s me and Chris – that will be the end of that Batman Era."
  • Though Batman fans will have a lot to enjoy before they have to mourn the loss of Nolan’s vision of the superhero. And they don’t even have to wait until the film’s release on 20th July 2012 to get a taste of the action. Warner Bros. has confirmed that a six minute prologue of the film will be shown in selected IMAX screenings of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol worldwide from the 21st December 2011.
  • Sony Pictures will release the upcoming Evil Dead remake, having acquired the scripts distribution rights. After years of rumours the film will have its rebirth on the big screen, produced by Rob Tapert, and will have input from some of the film's originals like Same Rami and Bruce Campbell.
  • We have a new disaster movie looming on the horizon as New Line takes up San Andreas 3D. The film, written by Allan Loeb, will focus on a man's journey to reconcile with his children amidst a giant earthquake. It will be interesting to see whether 3D will bring a new dimension to the disaster genre.

New Releases

  • Hugo

The film has already been named best film and its director Martin Scorsese awarded best director by the National Board of Review. It promises great success as Scorssee’s first children’s film. Based on the novel by Brian Selznick, Hugo (Asa Butterfield) is an orphaned boy in 1930s Paris, living in the walls of Montparhasse train station who is caught up in solving a mystery involving his late father and an automaton.

  • Happy Feet 2

The sequel to Happy Feet makes its first appearance on the big screen this week, though it has already come under harsh scrutiny from critics. Following on from its predecessor, the film follows Erik (Ava Acres), who is Mumble (Elijah Wood) and Gloria’s (Pink) son, as he tries to find his feet amongst the other penguins.

  • The Thing

Acting as a prequel to John Carpenter’s 1982 original we see Kate (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) investigating the discovery of an alien creature found in Antarctica. It is doubtful that this remake/prequel will live up the cult status the original has earned. Though if nothing else it will provide some winter chills amongst the other light hearted releases this week.

Films on TV

If you fancy a movie night in this week then there are a lot of offerings. Showing throughout the week on Sky Movies Premiere is the comedy starring Harrison Ford Morning Glory, or if you are already in the mood for Christmas then tune in for Deck the Halls on Saturday at 4.45pm on E4. If you’re looking for action then later in the week you can catch Lethal Weapon on Monday on ITV4 at 9pm; or later in the evening, Three Kings on ITV2 at 11pm. Or if you want a martial arts classic then watch Bruce Lee in Enter the Dragon on Thursday at 11pm on ITV4.

And is directed by Martin Scorsese, which is a guarantee that it'll be good!
