York City Knights vs Leeds Rhinos – Match Preview

City Knights
Friday, 13th January 2012
York City Knights look set to call on all their experience when they renew Yorkshire rivalries against Super League giants Leeds Rhinos at Huntington Stadium this Sunday. Player/Head Coach Chris Thorman is looking to incorporate his senior players into the game, making changes from the less experienced side that narrowly lost out against Keighley Cougars last weekend.

James Ford is set to return in the centres, while Thorman himself could feature in the halves. Adam Sullivan will make his second Knights debut after returning to the club from the Hunslet Hawks, while club captain Alex Benson and hooker Jack Lee are also recalled to the squad. Thorman will also hand a debut to winger Waine Pryce and is set to give former Hull FC and Great Britain prop Paul King his first Knights start, providing a minor back problem clears up.

Shuffling the pack further, new signing Jordan Tansey is set to start against his former club, and duel registration recruits Ben Hellewell and Brooke Broughton could feature for the Knights for the first time.

Looking back at the match against Keighley, Thorman commented that despite falling to a defeat, he was “pleased with many aspects of the game”. The Knights’ coach also took the opportunity to send a rallying cry to players set to play this weekend, saying that “now some of our more experienced players have the opportunity to stake their claim for a place in the team”, and adding that “training has been excellent and I know everyone is keen to play again this week”.

Sunday’s eagerly anticipated clash kicks off at 3pm, with turnstiles opening at 1.30. Information about tickets and other match information can be found at www.yorkcityknights.co.uk, and be sure to check back to The Yorker for our match report and future regular features on the York City Knights.
