Here’s the story: It’s 10 years after Captain Hook has left Neverland, and Peter Pan has become fed up with being a little boy. On his ramblings through the forest (shall we say), he finds a ‘mysterious pile of books’ which inspires him to seek higher education at York University (tenuous, I know). Captain Hook, now a video pirate whose ship’s sinking due to the sheer mass of pirated DVDs (God I love panto), gets wind of this when watching a Neverland reality TV show. He returns to Neverland to foil Pan’s plot.
In the meantime, Peter finds Wendy at a drunken Ziggy’s social (I’m not sure what the theme is, but probably sports related). She, a glowing campus ‘socialite’, can’t remember who he is. Crestfallen, he and the psychedelic, fairy dust-peddling Tinkerbell, hatch a plan to woo Wendy and return her to his affections.
Back in Neverland however, Peter Pan seems to have already been replaced as leader of The Lost Boys (or has he?)
Central Hall is due to be transformed into a pirate ship (I can’t wait), with the stage serving as Neverland itself. Tickets are on sale at Vanbrugh stalls throughout the week. If you didn’t get to see a panto this Christmas, here’s your second chance.
