Taken on your own individual journey through the land of sleep and the subconscious, each participant was blindfolded and subjected to a varying range of dream and nightmare experiences. From comforting whispers and stroking to screaming of the murderous variety, my journey summoned a range of contrastive emotions set to a background of dramatic and affecting music. Being able to see shapes and figures through the thin black blindfold made the experience all the more surreal; the fuzzy perception of masked movement around and about you caused the sensation of a dream-like state to envelop you and make the encounters all the more authentic. The fact that I am writing this at 4am, genuinely unable to sleep, is testament to the cast’s dramatic ability. I can’t wait for this week’s Metamorphosis to take place. Dreamscape was a truly memorable, and horrifyingly surreal, experience.
The cast can be seen in Metamorphosis, which will run from Thursday 24th Jan until Sunday 27th Jan with performances at 7:30pm in York University Drama Barn. Tickets available from Vanbrugh Stalls this week or on the door but arrive early to avoid disappointment.
