Brilliantly narrated by James Duckworth, Dramasoccy Horror saw Ed Lewis-Smith and Veronica Hare in the lead roles of Brad ('Asshole!') and Janet ('Slut!'), and comprised of an impressive line-up of DramaSoc's finest with Patrick Fysh "a Sweet Transvestite from Transsexual Transylvania", Nicola Carter, Dominic Allen, Joe Hufton, Jamie Wilkes and more.
In-jokes regarding 'Kate Shenton's pants' may have been lost on some of the audience, and the plot progressively broke down until complete madness - and much corpsing - ensued. Having been put together within 48 hours during the same weekend as Pantsoc's The Sword in the Stone the show was by no means perfect. The singing and dancing were, however, very impressive. Indeed, this ensemble piece was certainly worth the watch: if only for Raza Rivzy's lustful glances at the audience.
Every Monday at 7.30pm, ODNs showcase a range of workshops and performances that are completely free such as Dramasoccy Horror. They kicked off this term in week 2 with a Britain's Got Talent theme, featuring singers and world record-breaking attempts! So far, a variety of shows have taken over the Barn with gameshows, student-written plays as well as a musical.
Past years have seen successes ranging from Operagasmic’s Don Giovanni, DramaSoc Reduced, An Improvised Pantomime and QI. The Drama Barn also opened doors to workshops, a murder mystery and a simulated audition. After the success of An Improvised Musical as an ODN organised by the cast of I Love You, You're Perfect Now Change, the concept has secured two more slots in the Barn as well as a chance to perform at Edinburgh Fringe Festival this August.
Applications for next term's ODNs are currently open to all (including non-members of DramaSoc). Email Robert Kodama (rk532@york.ac.uk) or Stuart Hall (sh626@york.ac.uk) for an application form or further details. Applications close FRIDAY WEEK 10. For more information, click here.
