Lauren Tabbron writes about the difficulties of spending Christmas away from a loved one.
Hallelujah, I have seen the light and discovered that a warm winter hat is not just the most wondrous thing in the world at keeping out cold northern chills, but also happens to be bang on trend. So besotted by the hat have I became that in the last 12 months I have managed to accrue eight of the little darlings and now feel the need to obsess over them in writing.
Part of the hat’s genius lies in the fact that unlike other accessories hats tend not to fall in and out of fashion too quickly and thus I like to think that buying a hat is more like making an investment, meaning that I can buy as many as like and never feel guilty! On top of this they’re surprisingly versatile; simultaneously managing to keep your head warm, stop the weather from wreaking havoc with your hair and look stylish.
Although the big trend of the moment is for oversized slouchy beanies, wearing a hat is more about choosing a style which suits the shape of your face and sits comfortably on your head than copying Kate Moss. Unless your skull happens to be the exact same shape as a mannequin’s then it’s more than likely that some styles just aren’t going to suit you, so remember to try it on!
The current darling of the fashion world, knitted beanies come in a plethora of different colours and sizes, adorned with everything from sequins to bows. Brilliant at keeping hair under wraps, I find that beanies come in particularly useful the morning after the night before when you need to conceal the shame of your unwashed, slightly stale smelling locks and look fashionable at the same time.
A timeless style, the structured beret has been fashionable throughout the decades and although black, cream and red remain firm favourites, the beret has recently evolved to incorporate such out-there ideas as a corsage or spots.
‘Pull on’ hats work especially well if you have long sleek hair. If, like me however, your hair tends to gravitate out instead of down then it’s best to proceed with caution as experience suggests that curls actually seem to repel this style.
Although I admit to being slightly biased in that I just can’t wear this style without looking like a train driver, I am willing to concede that this hat does have the potential to look both fun and chic. Wear with tied up hair for maximum fashion points.
why's this in the mojo??

I've managed to loose both of my new hats this winter, I'm gutted. Although got them cheap £3 at Primark.
