Sex just a phone call away...
Wednesday, 27th January 2010
Student life is supposed to be about going out every night, never getting out of bed before midday and eating everything out of a can. Oh and that bit about getting a degree. Last year, I led that lifestyle and assumed it would continue throughout my three years at university. All I had to do was attend two lectures and a seminar a week, and for this I was being sponsored by my loan. Life couldn’t be better. I was right.

That lifestyle has become a distant memory. Late nights don’t justify lie ins, there’s just no time. As this term progresses and the mounting sleep deprivation starts to take its toll, time management becomes crucial. Not only have I become that girl who obsessively books key texts and schedules lunch dates a week in advance, my sex life is slowly creeping into my timetable too.

I had never before appreciated the art of the booty call. Being a fan of the chase and preferring to never get with the same person twice, sex has always been unpredictable and completely random. Every night out presented me with a whole host of opportunities.

Not any more. I just don’t have time for all that flirtation and frantic dance floor action. I’ve discovered the delights of sex on delivery. “Yes, hottie number 3, can I have the full works, please? When can you be here? Half an hour? Perfect.” Except it’s better than real takeaway because it’s free and you don’t have to clean up afterwards.

The way to prevent the booty call from becoming more serious is simple. Never let the guy sleep over, and make sure he’s aware he’s not the only person you have on late-night-visit speed dial.

Pre booked sex certainly takes the excitement out of life: it’s a little awkward opening the door to someone when you know all they’re there for is some late night nookie. But it certainly does allow for effective time management. So why don’t we all do it?

I suppose it’s the impersonal side that scares people away. The relationship between booty call buddies is a bit like a business contract. You agree to provide each other with a service which has distinct limits and certain pre established rules. Breaking the contract by becoming too attached, for example, can result in a prompt end to the business relationship.

Sadly there aren’t many other options for busy women with full schedules. Despite finding a dedicated boyfriend who would be willing to work around my ridiculously long days, all I can do is settle for an emotion-free sex buddy.

As long as no one gets hurt and you both obey the ‘business contract’, nothing too horrendous can go wrong. It’s better than no sex, anyway.
