The Department works to provide a supportive, friendly atmosphere that encourages our students to believe in themselves and to achieve their potential. Informality is one of the distinctive qualities of York University, and we believe that treating students as adults, in a relaxed but busy setting, is an important part of the educational experience that we offer. The Department has the bonus of being based in the Kings Manor, a complex of late medieval buildings ranged around two quiet courtyards. The peaceful ambience extends to the nearby Museum Gardens, one of York's important green city-centre oases. But don't be misled: our students ensure that the old place has a lively 'buzz'.
