The York Theatre Royal dates from 1744, making it over 250 years old. Today it plays host to both local and national theatre companies, whose productions make up a programme of plays, musicals and pantomimes. There is wheelchair access to the studio and the theatre stalls, and audio descriptions and sign language translations of the performances are available. The café serves a variety of snacks and beverages during the day; the bar is open between 6 and 11pm on performance nights.
