Getting there
Travelling to Blackpool isn’t that easy. To get a train there it's going to cost you £37 for a return ticket and the trains don’t run that frequently of a night time, the last train is at 11.30 pm and doesn’t get you back to York until 8am!! And no–one likes to be on the train with all the commuters in the morning looking like a dirty stop out... I can speak from experience here! The daytime train takes you three hours, with two changes, which isn’t that bad if you decide to stay over, but then you can’t get a return.
However, if you drive, or have a housemate/ course mate/ boyfriend who does and fancies a trip to the seaside, then the journey only takes two hours and it's a pretty straight road, with a car full of friends the petrol really doesn’t work out that expensive.
Where to stay
Blackpool has many sea front hotels, however, these can be pretty pricey and not all that fab for the money you’d spend. When we went, we booked a cheap Bed and Breakfast called the SouthCrest Promenade Hotel which costs £17.50 a night en- suite for four people sharing.
The hostel is very basic with simple facilities, but location wise, it's only a short walk from the seafront and everything was clean! Always handy I find... Also, their claims of having the freshest, finest home cooked English Breakfast are not unfounded, my veggie fry up was delicious, although not so much later as I was plummeting down the Pepsi Max Big One...
What to Do
Go to the pleasure beach!!!! Sorry, I got a tad excited, the pleasure beach is a must when in Blackpool. I recommend buying a wristband (they start at £15 if you book in advance online) as this gets you unlimited goes on all the rides, and works out a lot cheaper than buying tickets for each one individually. There are both big scary rides and the more relaxed, less horrifying rides such as the carousel, for when all the adrenaline gets a bit too much.
The Pepsi Max Big One is fantastic, it's the classic ride of Blackpool and is still the tallest rollercoaster in Europe. Steeplechase is another must, you clamber aboard your own horse and race other people to the finish line... more fun than it sounds here I promise!
If rollercoasters aren’t your thang, then head on down to Golden Mile, a whole mile of sandy fun! Or you could pop over to the Wax Museum, the sea life centre or the Blackpool tower.
Eating Out
After a day of crazy Blackpool fun, you’re going to be hungry. There are plenty of Fish and Chip shops dotted around the place and the amount of ice cream stands is staggering, but if you are looking for somewhere a bit more swanky for the evening then Viva La Diva on Topping Street is your place.
Yes, its a little bit eccentric, but you’re in Blackpool, so go with the flow! It serves ‘international cuisine’ so basically a mixture of everything and you can get a decent bottle of wine for under £15.
Nightlife
There’s no denying that people who go to Blackpool want to party, and party they do! Klub DNA is a favourite with young'uns like us and plays a mixture of dance and RnB to get the party going, it's situated right on the sea front, so it's easy to find the way back to your hostel after a night on the razz.
If you fancy a more chilled night out then Cahoots in the town centre should be more your thing, it has a relaxed feel and you can just sit back with a drink, however, it does have a crazy glass floor (just so you won’t forget you’re in Blackpool!)
The bottom line
I love Blackpool and I hope you do to - it's a great place to go with a group of friends to have a laugh for a couple of days and celebrate the end of term and exam madness.
So what’s stopping you? Get some friends, get a car and get down to Blackpool; I’ll see you on the beach!
Great review but I can't avoid pointing out the outright abuse of exclamation marks.
