In pursuit of (Halloween) perfection

Halloween
Rocking the undead look was the way to go this weekend
Wednesday, 3rd November 2010
Since coming back to university, I’ve not really been out.

Okay, so I hit Ziggy’s on Wednesday, but that doesn’t really count. But then comes along Halloween, the day of the year I absolutely adore.

Halloween, to me, has always been an amazing day – from being a child and throwing the best parties in the school with apple bobbing and everyone dressing as pumpkins and bats – to being a teenager and developing those parties into full blown house parties, where people just tore up shirts and covered themselves in blood. Every single year was an epic event and I loved every single one. And even though the days of apple bobbing are, sadly, over, I still cling on tightly to my adoration of October 31st.

Last year, however, was different.

I thought it was going to be brilliant, I could imagine the whole of the University of York dressed originally (or not so much) as zombies, vampires and generic scary movie characters – but the reality was far from it. My then boyfriend and I were going through some hard times, so instead of dressing up as a kinky devil, I ended up getting an early night and watching a movie in bed.

Not, at all, what I wanted my first Halloween at university to be about.

So this year I had a few ghosts of my own to banish.

I was determined to have the perfect day: there was going to be decorations, creative outfits and a lot of fun. I spent the daytime baking tasty Halloween-related treats, decorating the flat and preparing myself. Everything was just how it should be.

The drinking games began, and, as per usual, ‘Never Have I Ever’ turned rather rude rather quickly but it was all just a precursor to town. Soon the 20 of us were ready to hit York, so we got in our fleet of taxis and headed towards Vodka Revs. We were determined to get in, even though by the time we got into town it was 11.15pm and the queue was crazy. But I was on a mission and that couldn’t stop me. So after a few shady deals and ‘backhanders’ we were suddenly in the club.

I don’t queue for anyone.

And the night was off. This was my first time in Revs and I loved it. It was packed; it was dark and the music was blaring. It was the perfect environment for the Halloween I wanted. A lot of people had really got into the theme and everyone looked amazing. I was with a huge group of friends and we danced the night away – with occasional breaks for air outside.

There was no downside to the evening, it was all incredible and I definitely had the perfect Halloween.

It can only get better for next year.
