It's a knockout!

Varsity Badminton
Badminton action
Tuesday, 19th February 2008
Wednesday is a massive day for University sport, as badminton, football, and hockey teams all face crucial knockout matches. With three home ties, there is no better chance to get down and support your University.

Badminton

The mens 1st and 2nd teams are both in action this Wednesday as they compete in the quarter finals of the BUSA Shield and Plate respectively.

The 1st team beat Warwick 2nds in the last round but face a tougher prospect in the form of Leeds Met Carnegie 1st team. York finished second to their oppenents in the Northern 2B league, however in the two meetings this year, Leeds have ran out 7-1 victors each time.

In the BUSA Plate, the 2nd team travel to Manchester 3rds who recently won the Northern 3A division. York won the Northern 4B league so are underdogs for the contest but will fancy themselves after a strong season thus far.

Hockey

The women's hockey 1st team are in the last 16 of the BUSA Plate and will welcome Central Lancashire 2nd team on Wednesday. The visitors won the league below York but with York also winning their league, the home side should be favourites for the trans-penine clash.

Football

After last weeks victory over Stirling 2nds, the mens football 1st's reward is a home tie with the Stirling 3rd team. This Wednesdays opponents lie in the league below last weeks, so confidence should be high amongst the York footballers.

This tie is in the last 16 of the BUSA Plate with a mouth watering tie against York St John or Central Lancashire awaiting York if they can carry on their impressive 8 game winning streak.

Tomorrow on The Yorker there will be a full football preview with player interviews and a lowdown on the players who can win it for York.
