The stand out side were the 2nd team, captained by Tom Birch, who managed to top their round-robin group ahead of the number five seeds Warwick. This led to them qualifying for the trophy where they made it all the way to the semi-finals before losing to Warwick 2nds.
The 1st team narrowly missed out on qualifying for the championship by finishing 3rd in their group. They eventually went out in the quarter finals of the trophy, but captain Luke Fleet took the positives out of it and said "it did us all some good and we can really work with this to prepare ourselves for what will be a very challenging Roses contest."
In the individual competition it was the best York have ever performed. Five players reached the last 64 with impressive scalps for Ed Cuffe-Adams (he beat ex-York and England University captain Matt Tugby) and Andrew Whyatt (beat BUSA England player Joe Latimer.
Solid performances from Tom Wilson, Tom Birch and Andy Myhill saw them win through to the last 64 also.
Steve Bradley managed to battle through to the last 32 before losing to former junior world champion Glen Spalling. Snooker captain Mike Walsh went one better by reaching the last 16, but both were trumped by Luke Fleet.
The York pool captain reached the final four of the 192 strong competition beating some illustrious names along the way.
I really believe that the players in this club are the best in Britain
Fleet is very positive about the future of York pool and proclaimed that "We have such a talented squad and I'm sure that the year of York is fast approaching. I really believe that the players in this club are the best in Britain and we will do something that no York team has ever done, win the BUSA team championship or trophy titles."
Good to see the club finally getting some coverage, very neglected by the uni's press considering we're one of the most successful teams in the uni.
