Why do you want to be AU President?
The AU President is a hugely important role within campus, and being the current Vice-President, i have been thinking about running for the role of President all year.
Why do you think you should be AU President?
I believe the role needs a candidate who has experience inside the AU and at University sport level. My current role has given me a great insight into how the AU works on a day to day basis.I also possess a great deal of passion and belief which gives me the drive, if elected, to do a great job.
What are your policies? Where will the money go?
The University is going through a changing period with Heslington East being built, but i believe its important that the current campus is not forgotten.
I understand that funds may be limited but i would really like to improve the condition of the running track. This would benefit clubs and the general fitness of the uni; i feel that many people are put off by the current state of the track so chose not to run at all.
The sports centre needs to look a bit more professional but money can be spent elsewhere. An improvement with regards to the sports centre would be greater unification between the AU and the sports centre.
At the minute, corporate bookings can take prority over University bookings, i don't think this is right. Basketball often get stuck in the tent for big games which i do not think is good enough.
I am very much behind the 'Sport in York' motion which will heighten awareness of sport in the upper echelons of York University. This should lead to an increase in quality of sport and could attract better sporting students who could take us to the next level of inter-university sport.
Of course a priority is to win next years Roses, and as we're at home, i want to make it more of a University wide event.
Are you doing this for the CV or do you really want to improve the uni?
People will think that as i've been Vice-President, the step up will only be for my CV, but this couldn't be further off the mark. I've often been asked throughout the year if i was going to run for President, but i decided to give it lots of thought, instead of deciding straight away.
I currently am in charge of college sport and it is something that i love. Next year i could boost the profile of college sport even further.
Has Jo Carter done a good job? Where can you improve on her work?
Jo has done a fantastic job, i know how much effort she puts in. She is always in the office later than you would expect.
She has done great work for charity, with her running of the marathon and Ride of the Roses. I really want to carry on her charity work as i recognise that all the clubs on campus can affect the wider community.
