Football heartbreak as rugby and table-tennis progress

Thursday, 28th February 2008
With three teams starting their BUSA competitions this week, the spotlight was on the football 1sts who had already battle past Stirling twice to reach the quarter finals.

Having lost to UCLan earlier in the season, revenge was on Yorks minds as they travelled to their Lancastrian rivals. However, this did not come to fruition as they agonisingly lost out 2-1 after extra time.

O'Shea opened the scoring for the visitors with a headed effort on 65 minutes before UCLan pegged back 10 minutes from time.

This led to extra time in which UCLan dominated before scoring the winner in the second 15 minute period.

Both men's rugby teams won their opening BUSA knockout encounters and the table tennis progressed by means of a walkover.

The rugby 1sts ran out 13-5 winners at Strathclyde with captain Paul Goodall touching down and Rob Grant weighing in with the other 8 points from his boot. They now face a home tie against Lincoln next Wednesday.

After travelling to Liverpool Hope University College, the 2nd team won 18-7 and will be on the road again next week at Nothumbria 3rd team.

The table-tennis teams path to the semi finals of their competition was an all together easier experience as Stirling failed to get a side together. A walkover was awarded to York who will face Cardiff or Manchester next week
