Due to the fact that most Universities finish their terms a lot earlier than ours, and that cricket is near unplayable until April, the BUSA cricket season is a very short one. York 1st team only had 4 fixtures this season in Northern 2B, winning 2 and having 1 abandoned before travelling to Leeds last week.

A close match ended in a weakened York team losing to Leeds and thus ending their BUSA knockout dreams. Carter called it "a massive shame, especially seeing as our term finishes so much later than everyone elses."

Despite this loss, York might still have won the league if a match against Newcastle hadn't been abandoned. "The current BUSA rule is that if a game is rained off twice then the match is abandoned, but we are looking into changing this for next season."

Judging a team's performance over 4 games is obviously very hard but it seems extremely difficult to change BUSA cricket as other Universities break up so much earlier than York.

Something that is changing is the Sports Centre and the JLD astroturf. At the start of term, there was some concern as to whether both facilities would be out of action for some of the term due to the refurbishments.

"It is a relief to know what's going on regarding the sports centre refurbishment. Fortunately there is minimal disruption for anyone wishing to play sport for the rest of term."

A major concern was that various football tournaments would not be able to take place over the summer term with the biggest potential casualty being the College cup. However, with the astroturf fears being put to bed, the College cup is now in full swing.

Although admitting that she hasn't "seen any of the College cup yet", she admitted that it is a "very popular event", especially as it gives "2nd and 3rd teams a chance to play at a higher level, which is great."

An exciting week for the AU sees elections concluding next Wednesday with hustings Thursday night in Derwent bar. If you want to see who will be forming the AU next year along with Alex Lacy then you can get any questions answered by candidates at the hustings.
