Langwith, captained by Bob Webb won an impressive 18 out of 21 matches over the three terms, thoroughly deserving their title. The Langwith talisman and top darter Lawrie Morgan finished the season with some incredible arrow throwing as he recorded two 180s as well as 48 throws of 100+.
He also recorded check outs the likes of Phil Taylor and James Wade would be impressed with shooting treble 20, treble 20 and double 19 to check out on 158 while also finishing on 150.
Although Langwith won the league, there was quality throughout every team with Andy ‘magic’ Myhill of Goodricke also throwing two 180s with 11 legs of under 30 darts throughout the year. Marc Wigley of James also registered two maximums. The women were also recording impressive stats with Jenny Coyle throwing a 21 dart finish.
The college pool league went down to the last day of the season, although it would have taken a large Goodricke victory and heavy Halifax defeat to steal the title off Halifax. Halifax, captained by Tom Birch, had only lost one match all season so were worthy champions
The quality on show in both of these college sports is there for all to see on a Tuesday (darts) and Thursday (pool) night, but not enough credit is given to the sports. Very often, college pool has had to be played on one table (instead of the normal two) as the rooms with the tables in have been double booked.
Hopefully, next year, any problems can be addressed and college darts and pool can become even more of a breeding ground for university sport.
Jenny Coyle everyone.
