What has been your favourite memory of the year?
Winning Roses, easy. It was one hell of a weekend and I was a nervous wreck on the Sunday afternoon but it was by far and away the best moment of the year. Closely followed by the AU Dinner - it was a great night and so nice that we were able to celebrate such a great year.
What has been your least favourite memory of the year?
Losing my Roses match - the women's hockey 1sts. We conceded to go 2-1 down in the last few minutes. In four years of playing Roses I've never won -either drawn or lost. Lancaster are a good hockey team but we always give them a good game. I really thought we could do it this year - we'd had a great season and won our BUSA league; Lancaster hadn't won a game all season. Someone asked me that weekend which was more important - winning my hockey game or winning Roses overall. Obviously winning Roses was amazing and I wouldn't change it for anything, but it was so gutting to lose the hockey.
What is the thing you will miss the most?
Dealing with the club presidents - the ones who pop in every week with queries - I've really enjoyed working with them all. They all put everything into their clubs - without them the Athletic Union simply wouldn't exist.
What is the thing you will miss the least?
The politics.
What do you believe you have left as your legacy?
I think York winning Roses away will always go down in history but I'd like to think that the budget work that Rich and I have done has set things rolling for many clubs to develop. This year has been a really exciting year and the powers that be in the university are slowly waking up to the importance of sport, and I predict a lot of progression for sport at York in the next few years.
If you could change anything you've done, would you?
I wish I had had the idea of a healthy campus week earlier and was able to pull it off. Not having a welfare sabb kind of hindered this as well.
Have you enjoyed it?
At times I wondered what the hell I was doing, as it's been the best year and the worst year of my life at the same time. But looking back, I'm so glad I ran for AU President. Maybe I slightly regret not re-running, but I'm sure Alex will do a better job than me anyway!
