The Yorker: You are playing in BUCS league 4B this season, will you be expecting promotion?
Tess Olsen: We have a very strong squad of players going into trials and are confident that we can do very well in all our BUCS leagues this year. For the past two consecutive years BUSA/BUCS have re-organized Netball leagues and unfortunately this has meant York Netball has lost out by being shifted down into lower leagues despite being far from regulation. Hopefully having trials in Week one this year means that we will get a good start to the season.
The Yorker: The league throws up a derby match with St john seconds, are non-varsity derby games still special games?
TO: Derby games are always special; any match against St John’s are always tough and very competitive added to that our BUCS league is so close that every match is very important.
The Yorker: How is the club looking as a whole? Have you been hit by third year departures? Could you do with some freshers?
TO: We lost a lot of first team last year as well as other key players from the second and third team so trials are going to be key for scouting out new talent.
The Yorker: How do you rate Alex Lacy as an AU President thus far?
TO: Alex has been very helpful in all aspects of the club. Our BUCS fixtures have been re-arranged from week one to later in the term and he has been very responsive to any concerns or problems that we as club have encountered so far.
The Yorker: The big question - where will you be drinking on a Wednesday night? Ziggys or Salvation?
TO: Although we have traditionally been devoted to Ziggys, arriving there the moment it opens at ten every Wednesday, we are supporting the York Sport night at Salvation.
