Huntsman at 50/1 to be 2012 President

Friday, 21st November 2008
With Pietersen scoring runs and Agbonlahor scoring a goal, my tips from last week recovered a slight stutter with the young Villa striker already offering 2pts to nothing on a lay a week later. This week I look at a eclectic spectrum of betting value, ranging from Football to Strictly Come Dancing and for a potential massive win in the 2012 US Presidential market.

NAP: Christine Bleakley to be in the bottom two in Strictly 2.4(Betfair)

The nation was shocked and saddened to see John Sergeant quit Strictly this week, but punters, like me, with liabilities in the win market were somewhat relieved to see him go. Now we can to return to the normal predictable pattern of Strictly betting pointing us to Christine Bleakley to fall in the dance off this week. Bleakley has no doubt improved and has scored competently in recent dances, but this week competition is fierce and either one of her, Kidd or Snowdon could go. Bleakley dances the Cha Cha this week, which could suit her but is likely to be overshadowed by Austin and Erin’s performance of the same dance. Expect Bleakley to pale in comparison to the rugby star and join Kidd in the bottom two. 2pts win

Seano’s Shouts: Everton to beat Wigan 2.88 & Oliver Fisher to win Hong Kong Open 13.5 (Betfair)

On Monday night Everton travel to the JJB looking for their fourth win in five games. Since nicking a point off Man United the Toffees have not looked back with two away wins at West Ham and Bolton and a Moyes 1-0 special at home to Fulham. Wigan have lost five of their last six conceding 14 goals. 2.88 is far to big a price for an Everton side finally finding its form. 1pt win

Next I look to the far east where young star Oliver Fisher seeks his first tour win in the Hong Kong Open. Oli is a member of my home golf club and I have played with him a few times, and this boy is seriously good. His achievements of winning the Faldo series three years running, being the youngest ever player to play in the Walker Cup and the youngest ever Briton to earn a European tour card, display his calibre. He came close in a play off last year losing to Thomas Levet in the Andalucian Open where nerves got the better of him. He goes into the weekend tied for the lead and I am sure he will brush off the memories of Andalucia and me beating him in a quids in putting contest a couple of years back, to win at 13.5. 1pt win

Horse: Augustus John to win 6:50 at Wolverhampton 8.6 (Betfair)

The five year old maiden will seek to break his duck this evening after several promising showings. An impressive second here in February and other placed finishes in higher standard races mean it is only a matter of time before he notches up a first win. At 8.6 this is a fair value punt that could yield a pleasurable return. 1pt win

Outsider: John Huntsman to be President in 2012 50/1 (Ladbrokes)

Four years may seem a long time but you can find huge value in political betting markets in this vein if you back a likely candidate early. A hat tip[1] for this selection goes to Mike Smithson of Political Betting who is the doyenne of political wagers. This man backed Obama at 50/1 for the Democratic nominee a couple of years before the primaries and I think he is on a similar wagon with Huntsman.

The Governor of Utah is 48 with a wide experience of offices including a solid foreign policy background. More importantly Huntsman talks about modern issues such as the environment and acknowledging climate change, which may seem obvious to us, but is a massive rhetorical shift for the Republicans. The GOP need to change to win and a man like Huntsman fits that bill. Now I snapped up everything on Betfair at 50s or 55 but Ladbrokes are posting the same price so move there if the exchange lets you down. This is a great trading position so go hard now and trade your profits when he shortens up, as this is a golden chance to make real money. 10pts win
