Yesterday, the University of York Netball 3rds played a very close away match against Northumbria University 4ths, and although they lost the game in the final quarter, they maintained their sporting pride.
York came out strong, with Livi Coward and her new fresher partner, Lisa Griffiths working especially well together in the circle and shooting with great accuracy. However, Northumbria's tight marking on centre passes, coupled with their quick, fluid passing down the court put Northumbria up by 2 at the end of the first quarter.
The third quarter really demonstrated York's fitness and determination. Kate Copson's constant interceptions and Justine Atter's precise marking of her GS made it very difficult for Northumbria to score, resulting in York winning this quarter.
Unfortunately, overall Northumbria 4ths won 46 - 36 but York left with their heads held high. Both teams were very evenly matched and the game really could have gone either way. Captain Amelia Prestage definitely deserved player of the match, playing hard throughout, always finding the space and constantly encouraging her team.
Team: Amelia Prestage, Jessica Roberts, Kate Copson, Ellie May, Caro Aldridge, Livi Coward, Lisa Griffiths, Shadyn Nikzad, Justine Atter, India Perry.
