Teams were divided into 3 groups, the winner of each and the highest scoring runners-up making it through to the semi-finals. The top spot of group A was the most highly contested of the semi-finals places, with 'Derwent 2', 'The AU Exec' and 'The Veterans' all in with a good chance. Some skilled play, notably from AU President Tom Moore, Nick Hassey and Jack Kennedy, finally secured 'The AU Exec' their position in the first semi-final, where they would face opposition from group C winners, a team provided by the hockey club, who had seen off competition from lacrosse, badminton and squash squads.
Members of Deloitte and the football club were amongst those knocked out by 'Katie’s mates', who met the highest scoring runners-up, 'The Veterans' in the second semi-final. 'The Veterans' were the only all female team to make it past the group stages, using their skill and experience to defeat taller and more aggressive opponents.
The first semi-final was a close run match, with 'The AU Exec' eventually emerging victorious, while on court two, 'The Veterans' cruised to an easy victory, setting them up well to challenge for the overall title. The final saw the two teams meet again, however this time 'The AU Exec' were denied a second victory, as 'The Veterans' won 7-5 in an exciting end to an enjoyable afternoon of sport.
This year’s tournament had the biggest ever turn out and the netball club president, Annie Vater, was keen to thank all those who attended, “It was a pleasure to host and thank you to all who came and helped to raise so much money for charity.” The event was rounded off with a barbeque and raffle, and with a donation from Deloitte the club managed to raise over £400 for the AU charities, NSPCC and Sport Relief.
