Jimmy Anderson
Jimmy Anderson appeals in vain
Sunday, 28th November 2010
Day three saw Australia truly reinstate their trademark sporting arrogance and their superiority over England. The latter were frustrated throughout the day, and could only soldier on as Australia ended the day in a confidently impregnable position in the first test.

Mike Hussey and Brad Haddin produced a superb partnership, notching up 307, ensuring the England attack had a very miserable time. Graeme Swann huffed and puffed, but found it impossible to blow those wickets down, as did Jimmy Anderson, who was unlucky not to claim wickets earlier in the day.

The Aussies eventually crumbled when a terrific Paul Collingwood catch helped Swann take care of Haddin, and Steve Finn chalked off the last four wickets with Borg-like efficiency, crucially removing Hussey in the process and finishing with 6-125.

England need to tap into the brave perseverance they showed in bowling on day three when they come in to bat, as four-session innings are surely necessary to give them any chance of getting anything from the test.
