James Tompkinson reviews an excellent pre-season victory for the York City Knights against Yorkshire rivals Leeds Rhinos
The home side were on top of the game for the majority of the match, but the visitors managed to achieve an undeserved victory.
In the first half the York side dominated the game, not allowing Harrogate any of the ball, and coming close to scoring on a number of occasions. The midfield were strong throughout the game, working together well in what is a relatively new team. Freshers joining the squad have integrated well. Karen proved strong in attack, scoring from a foot outside the 'D', but this meant that the goal was disallowed.
The second half started well and saw York open the scoring, with Jaimie Unsworth scoring an excellent goal from a well worked short corner. Pressure from York continued, with the whole team rallying well to the slight increase in pressure from Harrogate.
By the end of the second half Harrogate were increasing the pressure on the home side. However, two goals in the last eleven minutes were completely undeserved, but the final result was 2-1 to Harrogate.
Diana Cowland, captain of the 1st team, said: "The whole team played really well. Everyone put 110% into the game. We were just unlucky to lose."
The next game for the women's 1st team is the BUSA match against Leeds Uni 3rds on Wednesday.
