A 5-4 victory for Goodricke against Vanbrugh in the final match of the term ensured they topped the table with 42 points, where they have been since winning in the first week.
Alcuin finished in second place on 40 points and third place was shared by James and Wentworth, both on 38 points.
Goodricke captain Andy Myhill, who took the win for Goodricke with a narrow victory over Vanbrugh’s Alan Belmore, told The Yorker “I think we won the league because both are female players are excellent and very consistently win big points for us.”
“When games get close or tense, we tend to show a lot more bottle than the other teams and hit our doubles when we need to” he added.
Myhill achieved the highest finish of the term with a 116 check-out and revealed this to be his best personal moment of the term. His best team moment was winning the first game of the term 6-3, despite losing most of last year’s team and being two players short on the night.
The term saw many impressive personal achievements: Alex Harrison of Alcuin hit 180, as well as 12 scores over 100 and four over 140, and he also achieved the best Men’s Quick Finish from 501, requiring only 19 darts. Andy Myhill threw 10 scores over 100 and two over 140, as well as his leading 116 check-out. Vanbrugh’s Emma Howarth checked out impressively from 103 and topped the chart for Women’s Quick Finish from 401, requiring only 20 darts. Close behind was Imogen Walsh of James with 22 darts. Walsh also impressed in 701 doubles with Jordan Horsman as they threw a combined leg of 32 darts, which was only beaten by Alcuin’s Alex Harrison and Magnus Tripp, who managed 30 darts.
So, after an exciting term, the teams are looking forward to challenging each other again after Christmas. With each term contributing to a yearly league, there is still everything to play for. Andy Myhill believes Goodricke can win again and said “next term I hope to continue where we left off. We have won the overall year league the last two years running and I don't want to be the first captain to break our winning streak!”
