York 2nds slumped to a second successive home defeat at the hands of Teeside 3rds on Wednesday.
York's 1st XI are six divisions above the 2nds, so captain Richard Remington had hoped that this game would be the catalyst for a title push this season. Instead he was left to mourn a shoddy performance. “I’m very disappointed. There was only one player in the team who looked like he was giving his all, and that was Jeroen [Oomen]. The midfield were very average, and the back four weren’t as decisive as they normally are. We let in two sloppy goals.”
York simply let themselves down in this fixture. Teeside had won their first two BUSA games and, sitting on top of the league, were there to be shot at. Remington said: “After the first ten minutes went by I thought that this is a game we should be winning.” But his side is struggling to find any form following the momentous away win in Leeds. “We should win this league, we haven’t played anyone who should be troubling us. We just seem to dig ourselves into little holes and put ourselves under pressure.”
The team in white looked to have weathered the storm when finally getting a grip of the game in the second half, only for Teeside to score two in quick succession and kill the game. The away team attacked in numbers, but till that point had failed to create any clear-cut opportunities. Their best chances came from individual errors, typified when ‘keeper Taylor only just escaped embarrassment when being dispossessed in his own area. “I didn’t play well at all,” said the home ‘keeper. “I don’t think any of us were really at the races today.”
York’s consolation came after a goalmouth scramble which was finished when sub Matt Fortman finally encouraged the ball across the line. But the home side never truly looked confident enough to take any points from the game.
Remington will be looking at his options before his next fixture on Wednesday, in order to avoid a third successive defeat. “I’m going to give Anton [Murphy] a kick up the arse and start him on the bench, to make him know that he has got to do better.” Whether he chooses to give Parris Williams a deserved call up from the 3rds, or has to look elsewhere to find a replacement, will have to be seen.
Anton murphy has assisited basically every goal for the 2nds this year? without him....you would have no strength and power upfront...you will learn
