Another defeat for struggling York City

Tuesday, 20th November 2007
York City's season took another depressing turn as they slumped to a 3-1 home defeat against Salisbury. Paul Brayson's header was not enough for Billy McEwan's under-fire Minstermen.

Supporters once again jeered their team off the pitch as the Minstermen crashed to their tenth defeat of the Conference campaign.

York, keen to make amends for their FA Cup horror show again minnows Havant & Waterlooville last weekend, got off to the worst possible start as Salisbury took a fifth-minute lead thanks to a smart free-kick from Matthew Tubbs.

The hosts responded well and drew level on 35 minutes courtesy of a Paul Brayson header. The experienced former Newcastle forward reacted quickest to a Nicky Wroe corner to restore parity and suddenly York looked capable of securing their first league win at KitKat Crescent since October 9th.

However, though Billy McEwan's men controlled proceedings after the interval, they were once again left to rue wasteful finishing as Salisbury snatched the points. Wayne Turk's effort saw the visitors re-take the lead on the hour before Marvin Brown heaped more misery on York's frustrated supporters with a winning header fourteen minutes from time.

City started the Conference campaign with promotion ambitions; but their form on the pitch continues to disappoint. As we rapidly approach the mid-way point of the season, York already sit sixteen points away from the play-off spots and are edging agonisingly closer to the unthinkable bottom four.
