Goals from Darren Kelly and Craig Farrell were enough to give the Minstermen all three points at the Wessex Stadium, though Gavin McCallum's late strike meant the visitors were made to sweat for the win.
York had a let-off in the first-half after Weymouth strike Jefferson Louis missed a spot-kick. Tom Evans did well to palm his effort around the post and from then on the North East side looked the more likely winners.
The deadlock was broken eight minutes after the half-time break as Kelly got his head to a looping corner; and York put themselves firmly in control on 61 minutes as Farrell continued his impressive striking form with a well-taken goal.
However, despite bossing the game for long periods, York were made to cling onto their win as McCallum's spectacular 25-yard effort brought the hosts back into the contest with only six minutes left on the clock. City, however, held on for their fifth away win of the campaign.
York's caretaker boss Colin Walker will be delighted with the result. It lifts City up to 16th in the Conference table, some nine points above the drop zone, and they will go into next weekend's game with Crawley in good spirits.
