Here are 6 good reasons not to stay in bed all day, and instead get up bright and early and greet the day with open arms (or if this is to enthusiastic, at least muster up a good morning grunt!)
1. The early bird catches the worm. Albeit a tired old cliché, it rarely fails to ring true.
2. Chances are, if you’re living in halls or a house with fellow students, the majority of you are late risers. Therefore getting up early will avoid that inevitable fight for the bathroom/queue for the toaster that is such a common occurrence in so many student residences.
3. You’re going to have to do it sooner or later. When – dare I say it - we are forced to end our lives as students and venture into this rumoured existence known as the ‘real world’ chances are most of us will be working 9-5 jobs or similar, thus making an early rise a necessity. While some people may see this as an excuse for getting as many lie-ins as possible in before this terrible fate hits, surely it is better to get into a decent routine now than struggle to adjust later?
4. That terrible feeling you get when you’ve wasted half of a day doing very little, end up wasting the other half in the same way and wake up the next day with a heap of guilt and the same pile of work still to do.
5. Think of the weekends. Instead of getting up late everyday, try, just for one week, forcing yourself to get up early on weekdays, and allow yourself the extra time in bed at the weekend - after all, isn’t that what Sundays are for? That Sunday lie-in will be SO much more worthwhile if you have earned it during the rest of the week-better one or two amazing sleeps a week than 5 or 6 mediocre ones, surely?
6. If all else fails, look at it like this; if you rise at a reasonable time and get that dreaded seminar work done early, you have the rest of the day to do what you like-watching TV, going shopping, napping etc, things that you are less likely to have time to do if you get out of bed later.
