Jasmine Sahu is well suited with this new American drama exclusive to Dave.
Lois Cameron explains why this series is much more than your average cosy period drama.
The last episode of this series sees Sherlock and Moriarty attempt to solve the final problem with devastating consequences.
With major cast changes afoot, Jacob Martin ponders whether Being Human can live up to its own scarily high standard.
Close plays Patty Hewes, a brilliant yet psychotically ambitious lawyer embroiled in a massive legal dispute with multi-millionaire Arthur Frobishire (played by Ted Danson) who cuts and runs before shares in his company plummet, leaving his employees financially ruined. Enter the heroine of the series, Ellen Parsons (Rose Byrne), a bright and ambitious law graduate who turns down a place at another prestigious law firm for the opportunity to work with Ms. Hewes despite the irreparable damage it can do to one's mental health. As pets begin to die and her own loved ones become embroiled in the case, Ellen begins to suspect that she was hired for more than just her accute legal brain.
Both Close and Danson put in stellar performances. Hewes is a mercurial, volatile figure vearing between fire breathing dragon and mumsy guidance counsillor with disturbing ease. Arthur Frobisher's dyed white hair and chiselled complexion make him look like something out of a marvel comic, a super hero's nemesis with a cold and calculated brain ticking away behind those stony eyes. Rose Byrne's character on the other hand is slightly disapointing. She is supposedly a top notch graduate with carte blanche of any law firm in New York yet she comes across as a simple, inarticulate schoolgirl, completely out of step with the cuthroat world of litigation. Mind you, there are two more episodes so let's give her a bit of time to prove herself.
The dialogue is sharp and the plot twists, fresh and exciting. The first episode never strayed into the realm of cliche, always staying that twisted or bloody step ahead of the viewer. However, If you're looking for any sort of insight into the workings of the legal system then you won't find it here. Most of the lawyers in this show would have been disbarred or even locked up after half an hour of the first episode. However, if you want intrigue, corruption and dead bodies a plenty then you can't go far wrong with this.
