A Bank Holiday weekend gave the country an excuse to sit back, relax and enjoy a little bit of lazy time. Extending this to unprecedented levels, The Yorker brings you the ultimate guide to an (almost) excused week of procrastination in front of the box.

Due to the football, The Apprentice (BBC 1, 9pm) has been moved and is our Tuesday pick. The six remaining candidates are put into two teams and challenged to rent out supercars such as a Ferrari and the latest Aston Martin to members of the public. A new series of documentaries also begins that evening with a profile of the winner of the 2007 Nobel Prize for Literature, Doris Lessing (Imagine…, BBC 1, 10.35pm). Alan Yentob’s interview manages to draw out many interesting insights.

The England team take on the USA in a friendly on Wednesday which will be Fabio Capello’s third game in charge (Match of the Day Live, BBC 1, 8pm). For those less enamoured of sport, there is the guilty pleasure of Desperate Housewives (Channel 4, 10pm). Wisteria Lane’s residents pick up the pieces after last week’s tornado. Desperate Housewives consistently provides the perfect mix of drama and comedy and this week’s episode is no exception.

Thursday night starts off with fantasy drama Heroes (BBC 2, 9pm), where Suresh is ordered by Bob to give Monica a form of the Shanti virus manipulated to end her ability without harming her. This is followed by yet another guilty pleasure, the glossy American drama Gossip Girl (ITV2, 11pm). Yes it is full of beautiful people living lives far removed from the average viewer and the narrator is incredibly irritating but it is undeniably fun.

The obvious choice on Friday is Peep Show (Channel 4, 10.35pm). Five series in and it is still one of the funniest shows on television. This week, Jeremy and Super Hans manage to find a band manager and perform at a Christian rock festival. Alternatively, digital viewers can have silly fun with Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (E4, 10pm).

Round off the week on Saturday with the comedy The Girl Next Door (BBC 1, 11.10pm), starring Emile Hirsch and Elisha Cuthbert.

Peep Show's still good, but it seems to be becoming more of a typical sitcom and less based on the characters themselves. I love how Johnson has become a stereotype of himself lately though

There was a technical problem which meant the article could not come out as planned. The article has been changed in respect of this.

Enjoy the article.
