Well. It’s been emotional, hasn’t it? And the new head?! She’s completely crackers, isn’t she?
Her name is Karen ‘I’m a control freak’ Fisher, commander of the teachers of Waterloo Road, generally rather irritating to all those around her, servant and servile to no one. Mother of two wayward daughters and a bulimic son, and wife to a soppy adulterer. And she will get her own back, in this life or the next. To be fair, Maximus... I mean Karen, has had it rather hard over these last few weeks. And to cap it all, she does have a very pregnant Janeece ‘helping’ her out. So things aren’t looking up either. However, because this is WR (like ER but less intellectual and more fun) you can be rest assured she isn’t the only one having a crappy time.
So, what’s new pussycats? Well, the two homeschooled kids are eventually settling in to their life at the school, getting lost on the moors and poker games aside, plus their dad has joined the team as a geography teacher! Last season’s suggestive glances from Josh have finally come to something, as he somewhat irrationally pounced on best mate Finn, only to be rebuffed. Don’t worry though, because, suddenly, everything’s all right between them now.
Jess, daughter of the head, is still keeping quiet about her night of passion with deputy head Mr. ‘I have too much conscience’ Mead, while managing to be a real brat to most other people at the same time. Given time, though, I have a feeling she might fall for Jonah Kirby: he’s so stern with her, it’s practically the same as dating a teacher. Meanwhile, Ruby is planning for a bundle of joy - however, things aren’t going quite as smoothly as she might have hoped, and she and husband John have looked in a rather predictable direction for help. You guessed it, looks like Janeece’s ‘sprog’ is going to be Ruby’s when the time comes. In the meantime, it’s Janeece’s plan to move in with the Frys until the baby comes. That should be fun.
Will Janeece steal Mr. Fry away with her gold plated hoops? What is Mr. Mediocre going to do about his little extracurricular fling? Is Finn going to decide that he can’t let Josh (who is now a serious hottie) be snapped up by anyone else? Do we really care?
No. But it is pretty amusing to watch, and on Wednesday nights at eight, who needs more than that?
The next episode of Waterloo Road airs tonight at 8pm on BBC1.
