Jasmine Sahu is well suited with this new American drama exclusive to Dave.
Lois Cameron explains why this series is much more than your average cosy period drama.
The last episode of this series sees Sherlock and Moriarty attempt to solve the final problem with devastating consequences.
With major cast changes afoot, Jacob Martin ponders whether Being Human can live up to its own scarily high standard.
- It’s starting to sound repetitive but this week has seen yet more cancellation news from the US. Undercovers, the lighthearted spy series from J.J Abrams, has been cancelled by NBC after just seven episodes. It will officially be removed from their schedule on December 1st and the remaining installments will air at some later date. (I’ll admit I was hopeful that this would be good, but ultimately it failed to receive either critical acclaim or substantial viewership.)
- Fresh details are emerging about the fourth series of Torchwood, which will air in 10 episodes next summer. It will be subtitled The New World, and new characters include CIA agents Rex Matheson and Esther Katusi, although no casting news has yet been announced. Since the unbelievable improvement that came with the third series of the spin-off show (the amazing Children of Earth) we'll definitely be keeping you up-to-date as more news comes in.
- To go with the return of the really rather wonderful Being Human to our screens early next year, there’ll be a web series entitled Becoming Human. The nine episodes will feature an entirely new cast and will debut online while the third series of the supernatural show is airing on BBC3.
- NBC has ordered two more episodes of Community, which is currently in its second season. This will bring the season total up to 24. The announcement bodes well for the sitcom (which is struggling ratings-wise) as it means the network may still have faith in it. If you’re not watching Community, we'd both highly recommend you check it out on Tuesdays at 10pm on VIVA.
- An amendment to last week’s news about Merlin: ten episodes have been ordered for the fourth series, presumably so it can be fitted into BBC1’s Autumn/Winter schedule in 2011 along with the second half of the Doctor Who series.
- And finally, for those who were aware that the episodes still being shown on BBC2 aren’t actually repeats, there’s the sad news that Ready Steady Cook has been axed after sixteen years on our screens.
- Fringe returns this Tuesday (at 10pm on Sky1) after its one-week hiatus. Be sure to tune in as the sci-fi series continues its third season with an episode set in the alternate universe.
- Fans of BBC2 series The Supersizers Eat... should check out its stars in their new series Giles and Sue Live The Good Life (Tuesday, 9pm, BBC2), in which they attempt to recreate Tom and Barbara’s self-sufficient existence from the hit 70s sitcom.
- It’s time for a clear out of the cast in Hollyoaks: a fire in Il Nosh will see different characters in danger over the course of the week, but we’ll have to wait until Friday to see who survives the cull and who perishes.
- The second series of E4’s hit comedy drama Misfits, about a group of teenagers on community service who developed superpowers after a freak storm, starts this Thursday at 10pm.
- If you missed The Walking Dead’s Friday night premiere, there’s a repeat of the first episode (‘Days Gone Bye’) on FX at 10pm on Sunday. Notably, the Halloween debut of the zombie-drama in the US achieved AMC’s highest-rated premiere ever, opening with more than 5.3 million viewers.
- It’s been a real success for ITV, and a second series has already been commissioned, but many will still be exceptionally sad to see the end of the first series of Downton Abbey on Sunday at 9pm on ITV1. So don your best hat, have a some tea ready in your best china, and say goodbye for now to the great house in the style it richly deserves.
