- If you (like me) are still confused by the idea of Buffy the Vampire Slayer being rebooted as a film then you’ll be happy with this news - Sarah Michelle Gellar (aka Buffy herself) is set to return to TV with a pilot for CBS. The green-light has been given to Ringer, an hour-long drama that will see Gellar play a young woman on the run from the mob who assumes the life of her wealthy twin sister only to learn that she also has a bounty on her head. Sounds promising.
- Hit BBC2 sitcom Miranda is to return for a third series, expected to air later in the year, although there’s no news yet on the rumoured move to BBC1.
- A trailer for Steven Spielberg’s Falling Skies has been released. The show will begin in the US in June this year.
- A previously unaired episode of Never Mind the Buzzcocks presented by Simon Amstell, which was scrapped during the Ross/Brand scandal due to Russell Brand’s presence as a team captain, aired last Wednesday on BBC2 and is available on iPlayer until next Sunday evening.
- General unhappiness has occurred around the content of the US remake of Skins, which I hear is actually tamer than our original. Some of the advertisers have backed out from supporting the show and the Parents Television Council (PTC) have even made claims that it violates some child pornography laws.
- Starz have announced that Australian actor Liam McIntyre is going to portray the role of Spartacus in Spartacus: Blood and Sand after Andy Whitfield (who played the titular part for the first season) had to withdraw when his cancer returned. The second season will start filming this spring in New Zealand.
- Sci-fi sitcom Red Dwarf is to return for a new series of six half-hour episodes. The episodes, which will star the original trio of main characters, are expected to film later in the year to air on Dave in 2012.
- The first of the cast members for ABC’s reboot of Charlie’s Angels has been announced as Annie Ilonzeh. The new show will follow the same format as the original ‘70s version and will be set in Miami.
- Fox have picked up a pilot from Heroes creator Tim Kring. The drama, Touch, will be about a man who discovers his mute, autistic son can predict the future.
- The customary post-Christmas episode trailer of Doctor Who revealed some interesting glimpses of the first half of the sixth series, which is expected to air this spring.
- The Tudors returns to BBC2 at 9.45pm tonight for the premiere of its fourth and final season.
- Nurse Jackie’s second season will begin on BBC2 tonight at 10.40pm.
- Following the recent Christmas special, a new series of Top Gear graces our screens from Sunday at 8pm on BBC2.
- Let joy be unconfined: the third series of Being Human is finally here. As Mitchell, George and Nina move to Wales, one key member of the group is still missing and Mitchell will go to any lengths to get her back. Find out if he succeeds on Sunday at 9pm on BBC3.
- The winners of the National Television Awards, voted for entirely by the public, will be announced in a ceremony to be broadcast on ITV1 from 7.30pm on Wednesday.
- The highly critically-praised Breaking Bad is currently re-airing its first season on FX. Tune in on Wednesdays at 10pm to check it out.
- The light-hearted Life Unexpected will return for its second (and probably final) season this Thursday, at 3.25pm on E4.
- American Idol is back, and without Simon Cowell. The new judging panel of Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson appear to have got good chemistry during the auditions stages and there’s already been some rather talented contestants. Further auditions continue on ITV2 this week (on Thursday and Friday, at 8 and 9pm respectively).
- The American remake hasn’t gone down so well over the pond, but the original Skins is back this Thursday from 9pm on E4. As the fifth series opens, viewers will be introduced to the third generation of cast members, led by Dakota Blue Richards as Franky.
