- The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards honoured Boardwalk Empire (with Steve Buscemi also winning for his lead role in the show) and Modern Family as Outstanding Ensemble Drama Series and Outstanding Ensemble Comedy Series respectively. Julianna Margulies won for her performance in The Good Wife, with Alec Baldwin (30 Rock) and Betty White (Hot in Cleveland) winning the acting awards for comedy.
- Although slightly less exciting than the news that Hugh Bonneville is to star as a space pirate, this week’s big Doctor Who casting is David Walliams. Details are vague at the moment, but he’s expected to play an alien. Other actors who will guest in the next series include Lee Ross (Life on Mars), Marshall Lancaster (Life on Mars) and Sarah Smart (At Home with the Braithwaites).
- The eight-part mini series The Kennedys has found a home on ReelzChannel. The series stars Greg Kinnear as John F. Kennedy and Katie Holmes as Jacqueline Kennedy. It will air on History in the UK, premiering in April.
- Simon Amstell’s sitcom Grandma’s House has been recommissioned for a second series.
-The CW have picked up four pilots: Awakening, Hart of Dixie, Heavenlyand Copper and Stone. The plots of the potential series’ reflect the network’s ambition to set up medical, legal and cop franchises: three of these four pilots are procedurals.
- Even more Torchwood: Miracle Day casting news: Sharon Morgan will return to her role as Gwen’s mother Mary, while Ian Hughes (Gavin & Stacey, Bright Young Things) will play Ralph Finch.
- Tomorrow night, the re-imagined version of Hawaii Five-0 (starring Alex O’Loughlin, Scott Caan, Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park) begins on Sky1 with a double-bill at 9pm.
- Intriguing new four-part drama The Promise, following the story of Erin (Claire Foy), a young woman visiting Israel in the present-day, and her grandfather Len (Christian Cooke), who was a soldier in Palestine in the 1940s, begins on Sunday at 9pm on Channel 4.
- Liam Cunningham, Jamie Bamber and Hermione Norris head the cast of new BBC1 drama Outcasts, about a group of pioneers attempting to settle on another planet in 2040. The first two episodes air on Monday and Tuesday at 9pm.
- On Monday, season 4 of Weeds begins on new channel Sky Atlantic at 10.15pm.
- Tuesday sees the beginning of the second season of Cougar Town at 8pm on Sky Living. Courtney Cox’s sitcom proved itself to be really very funny with the second half of last season so this is definitely one to watch. Jennifer Aniston is guest-starring in the premiere, ‘All Mixed Up.’
- It looks like it’s probably the most horrendous competitive reality TV programme ever created and it has just about the weirdest premise imaginable - 12 brides-to-be compete to win their perfect cosmetic surgery in Bridalplasty. Tune in if you dare to the first episode on Tuesday at 10pm on Sky Living.
- New animated series from the US, Bob’s Burgers, begins on E4 at 10.35pm on Tuesday.
- In case you somehow missed it the first time round, or just want to revel again in the all-surpassing joy of Maggie Smith’s performance, a welcome repeat of the absolutely glorious Downton Abbey begins on Wednesday at 8pm on ITV3.
- Life on Mars stars Philip Glenister and John Simm are reunited this week on Sky1 in Mad Dogs, about a lads’ holiday that goes seriously wrong. Marc Warren and Max Beesley co-star in the drama that begins on Thursday at 9pm.
- Like many, I’ve been missing 30 Rock a lot... thankfully, Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin return to our TV screens at 10.30pm on Thursday (Comedy Central).
